Would the sm fly give 500 at the bottom end? That's means boosting from pretty much f*ck all, which is nice.

Might give repo a shout when and if I decide to go for it.

Im running the stock k24 with reverse IM, wagner IC/XM, RS2 airbox and Milltek sport-cat turbo-back.

At each step the car has been noticeably more responsive. I am hoping that when i add the RS2 turbo to the mix, with all the mods above, it should kick in where the stock k24 did before the mods

it wont boost from nothing. it needs the gasses first

SM gives top end, sorry, wasn't too clear but it also improves throttle response. You could always do what I am doing / have done, build the car for a 3071 but leave the k24 in there on a homefries (basically what Jamo said), means that you get all the advantages of the big bits and the responsiveness and cheapness of the stock turbo till you're ready to drive it properly I thrash the nuts off the k24, it'll hit the red line in 2nd without feeling restricted, 7k in 3rd is about the limit, after that you need to be on track to really use 4th/5th but 6k5+ is acceptable, very different to a stock car where 5k5 is about it but you get full torque from 3k in the higher gears so it pulls out of corners well. Saved myself £5k on a turbo, bottom end and clutch... for now.

I do like the sound of that. Shouldn't be overly expensive either. Definitely worth considering.

look to install rods if yoy want umph low down. torque spikes are expected more pushing a smaller unit to higher boost levels. personally over 350 be it hp or lbsft id change the rods.

finally turbos are a compromise. a bigger one gives more but lag is the trade off.
That's kinda what I meant, being a multi valve motor it's going to produce peak power high up the rev range, it just needs a turbo capable of feeding it enough air.

the cams limit top end breathing. as does the head. its no honda thats for sure.

personally i tend to look towards the lifters for a view to revability. ie an impreza used solid lifters, a legacy hydro. cams differ obviously between the 2.

7500 is enough with our gearing. thats another sign to what the ehngines designed to do. long gears = low rpm, wide powerband.

your correct. once the turbo is past its best the engine gets asthma.

Solid lifters require new cams so it's serious money, worth it for higher power as it gives a further 500+rpm so 8k+ can be achieved, great for a big turbo that can flow up there. Flowed head is a nice idea for a high efficiency setup, shame it costs about the same as a turbo

a good head job cost more than a turbo. lifters can be obtained for cheaper. no need for solids just an example of how things can be gauged.

crespo do cheap solids if needed. cams are another question.

not needed for what you are trying to achieve.

Forget solid lifters they are a total pain and are not fit and forget they need constant reshimming.

Put the money into head porting instead

Head porting would be beneficial for low down torque, will also help the turbo spool a little earlier due to more efficient air flow pre boost. Not cheap, but could suit what your after.

                          shouldn't need constant reshimming.

id keep port velocity good and just polish it a little. porting may be a backward step.

Speak to the engine builders like MRC or Audiman

MRC600 car has now gone to back to hydro lifters over the solid ones. Says it all for me!

no need to speak to engine builders as i do it myself. its not rocket science its nuts and bolts.

pretty sure doug said it went back that way for drivability also. not the fact it wan't reliable. solid lifter cams in different variations are not exactly 10 a penny.
we are all entitled to our opinion though. simple fact is its not needed on these engines until we extend the rpm range and thats not on the cards here.

You're right there matey! I was originally suggesting to reduce the rpm range!

Definitely warming to the reverse inlet plus better exhaust, then probably a gt28rs for good measure. Need to find a way to fund it next.
