Hi Steve, could you specify PCV
If its what ithink it is, would installing a breather filter help
and secondly, i can understand how this fumes r sucked past the cold side when engine is running but surely they must go up past the MAF when engine
    is switched off. any opinions

The oil fumes cool in the intercooler forming droplets of oil i believe.

Dont understand how it would be possible to get an oil leak on the cold side though.

I'd agree with Audiman, sounds like the Valve seal have gone or the seal or the oil seal on the turbo.

Positive crankcase ventilation. A system used to pull oil vapour and combustion gasses back into the engine, rather than allowing them to escape to atmosphere.

Thats what i thought steve. The oil consuption has subsided abit. My local
Audi specialist is also abit puzzled. taking turbo off is stage 1. If it comes
back as ok then head will be coming off again.
On a brighter note just installed my home made heatshield. will be testing it
          tonight

            Problem solved

Finally found out the problem thanks to some good advice and new parts
from Alan at Vagparts . I salute u gents.
It was a faulty PCV. Amaising how something so small could cause months
of lack of sleep. Now she flys

When you look into ur engine, it is between the block and main radiator.
it looks like a half an orange but in black with two pipes coming out of it.
facing u will be the big flat end. One pipe goes down to engine block( check
u dont have a gauze on the block which sometimes gets blocked and might need cleaning). the other side goes all the way to rocker cover at the back
of your engine. This is to let ur engine vent its fumes but if valve is faulty it
                    will let oil through

I will have to check part no's, but i think lee had the same problem when he was at my dads garage meet. My dad managed to find an identical item from VW which was a fair bit cheaper. Iwll have to investigate it for you this weekend.

David if its white smoke in the morning which goes away. Dont worry its just condensation in that drainpipe of an exhaust. I spent some time looking into this as mine does first thing in the morning.
If it continues with a warm engine or is blue or black WORRY !

I followed an RS blue onto the bypass last weekend. When he booted it to show me how fast it was, there was a puff of blue smoke. Thats something to worry about!
Dont think he frequents the forums although its a nice one.
