    Water pump Q.

Among the parts im going to buy, i have to get the water pump.

    there are 2 options.

    1) refurb pump from audi costing about 40GBP
    2) New part from audi costing about 140GBP.

    what would you do?

i have already had a problem with a refurb pump which lasted about 2000Kms,then it started to leak and losing coolant...

was that a one off thing, being unlucky or have anyone else had the same experience?

      c) buy a new Graf pump with metal propeller for 70 eur.

Everything less than 2 bar is considered to be naturally aspirated

Buy a new one from GSF or ECP. I've fitted a new one from GSF every time I've changed the timing belt and had no problems.

          thanks for the anwers,

the graf one does not have anything for the rs2 model. Only for ABY. is that my choise?

          etka gives the ABY PN as 054 121 004AX and ADU: 034 121 004B

Interestingly enough, the code 034 121 004 (without the B) comes up in 2.1 liter I5 engines and older models!!!! seems to me that the ABY one should be better(?)

any known differences before i order the aby one?

AFIK the RS2 water pump has a different number of teeth to the ABY one and requires a different length timing belt. I suggest you check the posts on here about it.

id just to to audi and get one.

pretty sure it was about 30-40 quid for aby pump. oil pump is mortgage.

              avoid aftermaket with plastic impeller.

I see absolutely no reason to use ADU parts and pay the enormous extra they charge for the belt and the pump on the marble desk for them. ADU has smaller water pump drive, and therefore shorter timing belt.

I would choose ABY parts without a doubt. You just need to mind the cam timing, if You had ADU parts before. I assume You already have adjustable timing gear, so it should not be an issue.

Some OE pumps come with plastic prop, and I would definately not use one.

no, i have all ADU parts, no ABY parts on the engine, so cam gear is ADU, cams are ADU and water pump is ADU.

only difference is oil pump AAN from 034 but no problems using that so far.

so do i have to get other parts to fit the specific water pump?

ADU has 1 less "blade" inside so it flows more water, faster...

One thing i've learned we are way behind the Scandinavians!

                        It's 3 teeth

                        RS2 has 26

                        S2 has 29

I'm using the RS2 flows more water good for cooling on a modified car.
