Engine codes.

Hi, new to the scene and thinking about buying an audi s2. When someone says its an ABY or 3B or 7A engine what does this mean.

A 7A engine is not an S2 it's a non turbo coupe

3B = 5 speed dizzy ignition prior to 93
ABY = 6 speed coil pack ignition 93 onwards
ADU = RS2 engine

Welcome, your looking at the right place for a start..

S2's have 2 different engines.

3b is the earlier type that has a distributor and a also a 5 speed gear box
aby is the later type, it uses direct ignition and has a 6 speed gear box.


3b makes about 220bhp and aby 230bhp, although most have been remapped and a generic chip gives them both 270/280hp depending on condition..


7a engine belongs to the normally aspirated coupe quattro.
