Oil pressure and oil temp. sensors

    Hello guys!

Could someone tell me where the oil pressure and oil temp. sensors (for the mid console gauges) are located. Some pics would be useful! Also I really need some wiring diagram for the gauges.

    Tnx!

      Doug,

Number 18 is the pressure sender. The temp sender is on the oil pump IIRC.

Hmm so the oil pressure sensor is in the engine block, and the oil temp. sender is near the oil pump? Ok here is the deal. I`m trying to fit the gauges in a non-s2 audi B4, and I wonder if there are any chances to do this. I have seen universal gauges with universal sensors in some shops, so there must be a way... Tnx!

My brother has fitted the 3 audi dials into his mk2 golf - I can ask him where and how he has fitted them. I know he had to drill and tap a hole for one of the sensors for his car - not sure which though.

He probably drilled a hole in the oil filter base for the oil temp. How about the oil pressure...

I just spoke to my bro - you remove one of the oil pressure switches. Then you can fit the oil pressure gauge sender - this also has the pressure switch wired into it - that is why ABYs have 2 wires coming off and RR only have 1 (they don't have a gauge) I don't think the gauge senders are cheap but you might be lucky with a scrappy.

RR doesn't have an oil pressure guage - are you sure about that ? Even my old Type 85 GT had an oil pressure guage in the center console.

Here's my take on it for ABY & 3B (and ADU) - all oil pressure related devices are on the LEFT side of the block - under the water rail.

The oil pressure guage sender is combined with one of the oil pressure warning switches (Autocheck uses two) - this is the two wired sensor which is the lower mounting of the two parts.

A separate oil pressure warning switch is also used. The reason why Autocheck uses two switches is so that one level of alarm (0.3 bar) is appropriate for engine speeds below ~2000rpm and a higher limit (1.8 bar) is appropriate the rest of the time.

Also - separate to these two pressure sensors, we have the oil temperature sender near the oil pump - this is wired directly to the guage.

The RR I worked on with the digital display did not have the 3 gauges - and only has one wire to that sensor.

It is just as well I was told it was only meant to have 1 wire as I was going to start searching for the missing one! It was also nerve racking starting the car up after the rod bearing change as I didn't know if the oil pressure had jumped up - I just had to turn it over for a long time and hope it built up pressure! But it all works.

I have 2 (I think they are) sensors on the oil filter holder. One with a white wire and the other has a blue/black wire. I will try to find out where are those wires heading to...

This is the twin poled pressure sensor (excuse the large pics):

These are from golf engines but may help. Here you can see it replacing one of the sensors (the blue wired sensor stays - back left of the rocker cover on this lovely 1.3!):

On my 1.3 the pressure switches were on the block and the temperature sensor i put in the sump plug which after breaking it off had to drill it into the sump. On my VR the pressure sender/switch sits on the oil filter housing alongwith the temp sensor.

Im sure Dougal will recognise these pics!

I was looking at that thinking it looks like a 1.3, and it has a webber carb on it, and it seemed familar - the engines sitting in my parents garage now - he has a VR6 in the engine bay - and that feels fast in a lightish golf.

So, do you know my brother? Doh - you are him
