    Intercooler painted Black

Does anyone know if there is a company that paints intercoolers? I'm looking to get mine panted matt Black (like wagners), so it looks a little more stealth.

Use some etch primer for the aluminum.

There is special rad / intercooler paint available from Frosts.co.uk

I have some but haven't used it yet on my Wagner kit

BTW Carsten powder coats his new IC's, wonder if he could tell us how it's done?

I got my intercooler powdercoated in Southampton at Trestan

They didn't recommend doing the fins so I had them do the tank ends and the top and bottom face. They are cheap and do a good job. Then sprayed the front fins black after etch primer in a satin black.

Won't a black intercooler "hold" heat for longer than a silver/white one? (Gcse Science+memory may let me down here).

I know they need to be black on s2's in the name of stealth!!!

              Cheers Jamie

I used a tin of black hammerite on my silver intercooler it just looked too much like an evo or something with the massive silver unit visible through the grill....

As for the thermal properties then yes a black object will absorb more heat but I doubt if you will notice the difference, I certainly haven't. It's a car for goodness sake not a spaceship!

No , completely the opposite , you want the intercooler black as it will lose heat quicker, that is why all OEM intercoolers are black so that they are more efficient .

One thing to note here , a lot of paints have thermal insulating properties and thus no real gain will be had from using any old black paint .
You really need to have it anodised black to get heat dissipation gain or use a special ceramic bonded thermal conductive coating like this , link.

I've done this one before on Bo's project thread.

I hate using the car with it's big silver smile at the moment. It reminds me of Nelly's song: Grillz

I see this is an old thread but relevant to me....

                            has anyone anodised an IC?...
