    lowering compression ratio?

looking at cost friendly ways to lower the compression ratio of my v8 from 10:80:1 to 9:1, not keen on a thicker head gasket, or buying custom pistons, has anyone skimmed a piston i a lathe to lower the CR?

    cheers

rs6 is the same bore and stroke but has a 9:30:1 CR, could rs6 pistons be the answer?

RS6 could have shorter rods or indeed different pistons. Not a difficult calculation to get close to. What's the bore and stroke on a V8?

-1.72mm per piston to go from 10.8 to 9

              bore 84.5 mm
              stroke 93 mm

              Cyl XSA 5607.94 mm^2
              Cyl cap 521538.4 mm^3

              Eng cap 4172307 mm^3

              10.8 CV 48290.6 mm^3
              10.8 H 8.61111 mm

              9 CV 57948.7 mm^3
              9 H 10.3333 mm

              Diff H 1.7222 mm

              CV = compressed volume

ooooo i love a good bit of number crunching!!!!!!

1.72 is a fair amount, shall have to inspect a piston to see if they will stand that much being taken off, dosent sound much of an increase on the gasket tho............ im being lazy now lol

                  Could do both TBH.

How much did Tom skim his pistons?

Would have to make both top pulley's adjustable to comensate for the increased distance from the bottom pulley, I know most will say its not critical but getting the cam timming 'bob on' makes a noticable differance

And if you're going turbo/SC then you'll want to adjhust them a little anyway.

TD04's are what I've been looking at after having a chat with a few turbo guru's
