How can I fit an oil cooler to a KV engine?

    erm..

I'd like to install an oil cooler to a KV engine.

How will it plumb up to the engine?
& What bits will i need?

Can i install one from another car/audi? :mischeif:

you will need to install a sandwich plate between the filter and the housing, demon thieves have them then run that to the oil cooler. That's the easiest way I can think of

I bet you could get a UR oil filter housing and oil cooler to fit but that would be more involved

      kv is 10v?

2 ways maybe worth a look. mk1 golf oil filter housing and cooler for air cooled or mocal or similar.

get the rod from the non water sandwich cars for it. its usually the vital part missing or has been in the past.

yes it does... the KV runs very hot on the motorway

there are plenty of kits out there that you can install relatively easy, the donut type adapter (choose the thermostat one) and your choice of cooler.

another option would be a water cooled one, iirc a Fiesta turbo had a donut type that would also fit on the Audi oilfilter. just need to find a waterconnection.

Just noticed that it is a 2.5L GTi engineering RE2500 engine
This unit will be producing considerably higher BHP over the standard unit and could justify the fitting of an oil cooler.
This change may be of use to me as well as I am in the process of Supercharging the KV...any Alloy fabricators out there?

Sounds like a good match for a supercharged unit...I wonder which would be the quicker out of the two?

                        That adapter looks familiar Carl...
I had the adapter Carl now has and fed to a front mounted oil cooler I still use for the 20Vt. Easy install using Mocal parts and thermostat in adapter ensures oil only goes through cooler when it gets hot...Try and dig out some pics...

Some pics. Adapter is as was fitted to my KV a long time ago. RAd as fitted for many years. Will shortly be selling this 16row one as upgrading to a 25row one in prep for planned upgrades to 20Vt.
