experience with T3/T4 hybrid and T04E?

    Hello.

I have bought a second Audi s2 just to toodle around in but this one is a tad slow compared to my other one so im thinking about changing turbo on this with supporting mods. I have a little issue with choosing turbo though since its my daily driver price is an issue so BB turbos is sorta out the window.

I have looked at 2 different options but having problems deciding witch one to choose.
At the moment it stands between these 2 turbos.

    T04E
    Compressor wheel: 50,8mm
    Turbine wheel: 56,8mm
    Exhaust housing: A/R 0,63
    manifold connection: T3
(Cant remember the correct name in English right now)

    T3/T4
    Compressor wheel: 58mm
    Turbine wheel: 56mm (65,3mm)
    Exhaust housing: A/R 0,63
    manifold connection: T3

As i see it t3/t4 should be bigger and should produce more power but when you google it rating is usually higher for T04E which kinda makes med confused.

So my question is which of these 2 do you guys reckon would be best for 380-400 hp with good driveability.

I dont know these turbos, but from the wheel sizes, i would assume that the T04E would make around 360-380hp and have good spooling time, but it may be difficult to go over that because of the turbine options and the fact that with 50mm comp.wheel it is smaller than the GT3071R which makes around 400-425hp tops on a non cyl.head modified 5pot.

the T3/T4 turbo will make more than 400 easily, but i cannot say that it would spool sooner than 3700-4000rpm

If price is an issue get a KKK K26/K27 hybrid turbo or consider modding a Holset

Price is an issue. Pretty hard to get a hold of a kkk k26/27 turbo here that isn't totally garbage or mighty expensive. Lots of people is tuning audi 5 cyl now a days so prices on usual tuning routes have escalated to absurdity. I mean people often want 400 GBP but in sek for a 240 000 mile rs2 turbo.

I have a tubular exhaust manifold with T3 flanges so im reckoning i only have to make new oil lines and new downpipe.
Do you have a tip on a holset turbo for this application with T3 flange?

bullseye turbos in the states make a 0.70AR hotside with T3 flange to fit the HX40 turbo. It may also fit the HX35 which is smaller and closer to your needs, but you have to email them. I have bought the hotside for my HX40 turbo from them.

I had the T34(60 trim) with internal wastegate and made 390bhp. I had no lag and power off boost was quite acceptable so would highly recommend this turbo

I do believe this is a T3 / T4 hybrid, as often used on Cosworth's to up the power.
                      Something like this.... http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/items...34-hybrid.html
                      Cheers

I'm running a T04E50 with KKK #8 hotside. Works really well, especially with E85 fuel.

Dynoplot done on my engine shows strong pull and a lovely torque curve (red line) from just over 2000rpm
