    RS2 - 450hp - What is required?

    Hi All,

Been reading the forums for about a week as I have decided that an RS2 will be my next car.

I have done a few searches but cannot find all the info I require so....

I would like to build an RS2 to about 450hp as reliably as possible for daily use (if required)

What upgrades are required to reliably get this power?

I have no problem carry out engine rebuilds, (I build 320+ hp 4 stroke supercharged jetski engines) so will doing as much as possible myself.

Info I have so far with regard internals is....

    Stock pistons?
Forged H beam rods? Whats best?
    stock crank (all new bearings)?
    Cams - stock?

    Bolts ons....

    Turbo?
    Intercooler - stock?
    Manifold - reverse?

ECU - What are my options? in an ideal world I would like to be able to have 2 maps, one for every day driving (low boost) and a full track map whilst keeping the stock clocks/gauges - Is this possible?

Sorry for the long post, any input appreciated.

    Cheers,

Depend on what torque you want, could hit that power theoretically on stock RS2 bottom end and manifolds by changing the turbo to CT355, 3071r, 2871r etc

Audi bottom end is bulletproof to around 600 nm then you want to upgrade the rods for safety, Pauter or Carrilos are right up there but scat and their variants will do when balanced

No wrong and right way to hit the option Full 3" downpipe or greater and exhaust system is a must however

Reverse manifold will reduce lag and inlet temps not really increase bhp but does make a big difference to the car.

Personally For use of install I went with the Wagner kit for exhaust manifold, Intercooler, Reverse inlet manifold. There is one for sale in the for sale section for £1200 which is a bargain,

      Clocks are not ecu dependant.

Twin boost maps can be done on the stock ecu if you stick with it. You can go aftermarket with VEMS, tatech if you wish to remove the MAF which at these levels will become a restriction unless moved to the pressure side of the turbo.

        Thanks for the reply,

So I can leave the internals completely stock for 450hp?

I like the look of the wagner kit and will probably go down this route.

How would I switch between maps on the stock ECU? (is this called Motronic?)

Also will the stock clutch cope with this power?

        Thanks again.

If you can afford to change the rods do so it will give you access to greater torque and safety margins.

Be a switch only S2central.net and MRC can do this on the stock Motronic ECU afaik

Stock clutch will slip on a chipped RS2 you'll want to upgrade to a sachs if running the RS2 dual mass. You can convert to the single mass flywheel from a 3B car. The car will rev more freely at expense of some vibrations and more direct engine feel.

Here are some pretty straighforward options for power in the 450-500hp range, depending on fuel:

This RS2 has the following mods:
            034 high output coil kit
            Manual boost controller
            Turbonetics T04 Super 50 stage 5 with KKK#8 hotside
            Wagner intercooler
            K&N drop in filter
Full 3" turboback exhaust w/o cats
            Peak boost set to 1.8bar

FATS time (4200-6500rpm in 3rd gear) is 3.7 seconds with passenger

Approx 345whp and 460nm at the wheels (Graph 1)

Another option that involves E85 fuel. Requires bigger fuel pump, bigger injectors, wideband lambda and adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

            Mods to this RS2:
            Turbonetics T04E50 stage 3 with KK#8 hotside
            Manual boost controller
3" Milltek cat back (stock RS2 downpipe and stock cats still in place)
            Bosch F3CS plugs
Deleted aux radiator (much better airflow)
            Siemens 630cc injectors
            Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Peak boost set to approx 2.15bar
Stock clutch (unless original owner in Germany changed, but unlikely, since it was running stock power there)

FATS time (4200-6500rpm in 3rd gear logged with VAGCOM) is 2.95 sec

            To compare FATS times, check:

            http://fats.audi-quattro.org/

Approx 400whp and 600nm at the wheels (Graph 2)

I have Javad's complete 3071 kit and it works very reliably for 400HP,

              I also have:
              RS2 EM
              RS2 IM
RS2 cams (not essential, maybe you can get 7a cams if you want better performance on the upper rev range)
RS2 MAF + Airbox( these are not essential)
              044 Bosch Feul Pump
              034 con rods (Eagle)
              Stronger Cam Pulley
3" Down pipe and exhaust ( a bit too noisy)
              The Red Baron
              (R)S2 spec, 034 GT3071
              Wagner Short Intake and Intercooler
Whiteline, Custom Shocks with external reservoirs
              8pot calipers with A8 discs
              Vems

The ecu map is cr@p if you had the car real time remapped you'd get way better performance

how much more would you get Jamo with a stock cyl head and cams? another 20hp and maybe more a bit more torque? all companies that do maps like that have to be more safe i guess.

Some users on the forum weren' getting near 400 bhp using that map, Jade springs to mind

                          oh i see.

if figures are meaningfull, then 3071r is not the answer for 450hp unless serious things are done to head and cams

It can do 450 bhp but there are a lot of variables that effect an engine, exhaust, cam, fuel, compression ratio, ignition timing and as you said head

                            Kalsket got 458 with a 2871

Shame Ross Coupe died as it was going to be tweaked with bigger injectors and more boost and would have been near this figure with ease

excactly. it is what you said. the variables are going to play a role, not the turbo. This turbo will safely get you to 400. not 450.
