    K-jet to efi?

I'm considering the idea of moving from K-jet to efi?

Its for the KV 10 valve engine, tho its acctually an GTi Engineering RE-2500.

is it worth the cost? And how much is the cost? lol

I have a set of new (well, never used) K jet injectors that i still haven't fitted, I'm thinking I might sell them and put the funds towards an Electronic injection set up.

Is it worth it? also, would I be able to set it up? or would I have to go specialist and pay loads?

A lot of effort for small gains on that engine, k jet is crude but effective, suggest you spend the money on a few toys and a tune up from a k jet specialist instead

If you do swap then you'd need to add a cams, crank or other timing sensor and decide what you want. You can use a MAP sensor, air flow meter or MAF or map alpha n off engine speed and TPS for more race applications. Could fit 7A stuff or go custom... as above cost and effort would be high, gains low.

the gains initially may not be massive but in the end they can be.

lers take an example a golf gti 16v.

9a 2l16v makes about 135-140hp. thinkg 136 was book. efi and a good tune will take it to 160 or there abouts. the issue with kjet is the compromise. its either rich down and lean up or the other way round.

tunig kjet is costly. its a mechanical process throughout. parts wear spoiling tolerence of setup. getting a cammed engine to work well with kjet is hard work.

id go for it. id investigate the potential of digi-1 for a 5pot. try and email SNStuning and ask the question. danny watts was the guru.

a chip from sns was about 100-200 quid when i used to test in the uk. maybe trying to contact bilal who runs the uk side of it.

dont expect night and day performance differences. expect better running, fuel economy and having a platform to move forward with

Would it not be a lot simpler to buy Gav's big valve TSR KV motor?, it would almost certainly be a lot cheaper than converting to EFI. Or if your like me and slightly deranged, source an MC1/2 10VT motor out of a 100/200 and with a bit of work and a decent IC have 200BHP.

Actually thinking about it, I'd stick with your bottom end and use the head and everything else of Gav's motor.

Megasquirt is a fairly cheap setup which i think can run of the hall sensor in a dizzy, so a 7a dizzy do that. As for more power theres certainly the option tune using a wideband sensor on the road by yourself with MS as its aimed at the diy market, also using 7A dizzy would require use of the ignition feature on MS which would allow for much more tailored ignition map, especially as the compromise audi would set the kv dizzy up for was a different engine spec with a different application. You could see 10-15 bhp my guess, however i really dont know enough about this for that be reliable.

An other thing to consider is the intake design, the audi intake I believe starves cyl 5 and 4 of air slightly. you could design a new intake and test some software like solidworks and floworks like i have, or go with independent bodies, such as those of a bike or jenveys as ITbs are meant give equal flow as long they arent cramped up.

Also theres the exhaust manifold, the cast item I have always considered be abit useless. I remember asking on the quattro forum if was a tubular at all the market, theres was from germany and cost 500 euro I think, however was very nice and made from stainless, however if you knew someone that was keen at fabrication could get one made, theres quite alot on the internet about making headers, its mostly american, so have think in imperial or spend half time converting numbers

I know i kind of diverged from your original topic abit but those are the major things I could see worth doing on that engine make more power...

You can go for a "fuel only" setup, like the one that offers the australian Micro-Tech, the problem is that they don't offer the 5cyl setup (they didn't 4 years ago... don't know if they do now).

ms is not too bad. its dizzy. needs the ignition module and the wiring diagram is easy. you basically have a wire to pull timing and one to push it back to the ecu.

efi is the way forward make no mistake. how you go about it is another story.

knowing what i know now about these things id go with vems a subset of ms in a way but easily caters for 5 pot.

id expect on the 10v a 60-2 may be your friend. like i say id investigate digi-1 for bang for buck. look on the sns site or vwvortex for digi convereted 16v's. same principle.

If I didn't already have this 2.5 gti lump i'd defo be interested in a TSR KV. I think they are 170bhp aren't they? tho his is suppose to have a compression ratio of 11.something to 1 ??? so maybe its a bit more than 170brake. :mischeif:

Thing is, my 2.5 has a ported polished big valve head aswell, and forged internals. and is suppose to kick out 170bhp and 180 lb/ft torque. And that's suppose to be with a standard exhaust and filter, and a standard kv cam profile.

but i'm running a 2.5inch exhaust, and itg filter.. so maybe its a bit more than that? Buts its not been on a rolling road yet, so i dunno what its making tbh. tho once i fit this 272cam i have sitting next to me, i was 'hoping' for 190bhp. i dunno what it will do to the torque tho.

that last bit is important to me.. as you say 'a platform to move forward with' is something that interests me because I have a master plan in the eventual evolution of the car . I think I would like to fit a supercharger in the not too distant future :mischeif: so i need an efi system that is flexible enough to set up for it. Will efi make installing a charger much more strait forward?

I guess i need an efi setup that will run the car fine as it is at the moment, and then later be able to remap it or whatever to accommodate the addition of forced induction.

In fact, funny that you mentioned the inlet manifold, as I was thinking of buying a forward facing 10valve turbo inlet mani for this very purpose. I was even going to make use of it with the efi while the car was still running naturally aspirated. good idea? or no?

digi-1 is the ecu form a corrado/gold G60. a supercharged car. no maf as that would be an issue uses a co-potentiometer and ecu based map sensor with just wot and idle switches.

like i say if you can use it it would do good. id expect you have looked at the glader, eaton M62 from a merc 230 komp and maybe a twin screw on the charger front.

for reference the G60 was 8:1 but my mate did a subaru sport. a 2l 16v na and fitted a procharger to it with totaly stock everything. made 200hp straight away.

Do you actually know how the car is running? I'd want to put it on the rollers with an experienced tuner and see what I've got before I started to tune, knowledge is power there and if it's not running right to start with then it sure as hell won't run properly once tuned! Small dent in the budget but a good place to start.

that really depends on if you are swapping to efi or not. if not then rr and tune up is ideal but a waste of cash IMO if going to RR.

the fix to poor runing on kjet maybe as much as a conversion.

If it's running well then all good but if there's something fundamental that's wrong then p'ing into the wind. No point tuning something that's not running correctly.
