7A Cam on Home fried ABY

I've been reading up across the forum and there seems to be a great deal of interest in the 7A / NM cams.

Being that the S2 is my first "dual" cam car you'll have to bare with me.

Would there be any point / gains in fitting a 7A exhaust Cam on a ABY with the patent Home Fried ECU?

On top of that would replacing both Cams be worth a future mod?

My only conceren is concerning the timing and would the car require verniers?

Of course this is all hypothetical and i would never consider doing such a thing.

Jamo - I have to be totally honest here - I have not tested the homefries with the 7A camshafts. I really dunno if you'd see a benefit. My gut feel says its not really going to give extra performance as the extra lift it creates in the valves is more applicable to RS2 turbo applications which are forcing that much more air into the engine.

Either way - you would not need a vernier pulley, but one is available if you like shiny anodised parts. Think MarkH sourced one from Piper or Kent - the Blingmeister that he is

If there was extra performance to be had from the 7A cam on a K24 engine, then the chips would probably need a tweak to get any benefit. Maybe Mihnea has experience of this config, but you generally only see the 7A cam going into the RS2 installations - simply cos its cheaper than the RS2 one.

Can you take some pictures of the 7A water manifold under the inlet manifold?

7A's have a smaller water manifold, only has one entry point into the head.

I have both 7A cams in mine, no difference in power until it was mapped. Then I lost out on bottom end torque, but gained higher up. The duration is longer as well as the lift being more.

Was it worth it? I can´t decide if it is worth to have even less bottom end. I´m missing my bottom end (from the K24) now with the K26/27-#8/54mm. Although not properly mapped yet.

Or was the loss of bottom end torque motivated by the high rpm power??

High end gains, but not a lot. Depends on how far you want to go. There isnt that much loss bottom end.
