.......my head has just come back from the mechanics. I am informed that due to exposure to heat it needs to have 20 thou skimmed which will put it past the magical threshold or 118.1! There is also a huge crack on the 2nd cylinder between the spark plug and the valve - the engineer has reported signs of corosion - with both of these issues - in his opinion - a new head is required if so caqn anyone point me in the right direction of a cheap bare head please as I am at my wits end.

Furthermore - can anyone tell me what is the impact of doing this - my car hangs in limbo and is on the verge of being scrapped as this will be the 3rd engine in 2 years and after throwing 12K at a 1400 car - I have decided to draw the line.

I know this is a bit of a mixed question - there is a technical query with a WTD: wrapped within - hope that does not cause waves ;-)

Fortunately my head has been stripped and all the componets are waiting to be united with a kosher unit (nuts and fingers crossed and crossed again) - this is for my car - not me!

I think that is what was taken off my head and it run's superb, I thnk you only run into problems with a 20 thou skim when you start putting bigger turbo's on and turning up the boost.

hmmm - its running a hybrid RS2 turbo with 034 injectors and chips (basically the RS2 upgrade kit).

Could always throw a thicker, compression dropping headgasket on there to save an otherwise sound head.

The turbo head leads a hard life finding go 2nd hand ones is hard hence the 7A head conversion

All well with yours because it hadn't been skimmed before. Yours is still above the 118.1

With Jamo on this, why save a tired head?
