    S2 fuel leak

Hah... I had forgotten about a fuel line leak under the s2 as it has been laid up so long. Looks like it has got worse over time as a gentle reverse down the drive saw 15 or so drops of fuel. So happy days for me... Going to have to tackle this today. Car is up on ramps at the rear in the hope of sufficient access.

I have a new fuel filter, bracket, link line to tank, banjo bolts and seals. I should also have enough 8mm fuel hose to replace the damaged section with. Bought all the bits ages ago with a view to renewing all the fuel lines with engine out... But this leak has to be fixed asap. Damn car... I bet the heatshield at the exhaust gets in the way and can't be removed cleanly.

Looking forward to a day with a guarantee of road dirt and petrol in my eyeballs.

On the upside, there is only about 1gallon of fuel in the thing so I don't have to spend too much time emptying the tank - into the engineless B4q parked beside it.

I sometimes wonder why we all love our cars but then there is the odd occasion where all the pain, effort and money all seem worth it... good luck Mr. Paul.

I had this happen to me a few months back, just after filling up to the brim with v-power

Got them all replaced with Cupronickel lines so they shouldn't be corroding anytime soon

you don't need to empty the tank mate, it shouldn't come out under gravity

Good luck getting to the tank outlet though - diff mount and subframe get nicely in the way
If your ABY is the same as my CQ the tank outlet line that goes to the fuel filter is a plastic pipe that is heat moulded onto the compression fitting nipple at the tank end and the banjo at the filter end - I have got about a meter of this plastic hose left if you want / need it

Really as Sonic says you want to replace the whole lot as if you have one leak now there will be more to follow if all the lines are original.

For cupro nickel I used this ebay seller - very good prices and excellent service

Well it's done... About 4 hrs of which the last hour was fighting with those stupid metal clips that clamp pipes to body. I just patched the damaged sections.. Will do new lines when the chassis is stripped down.

I was expecting to empty the tank but the return pipe must be above the tide level in the tank... Piccies and more info to follow. Needless to say I am in the doghouse today with car getting in way of a normal life but hey.

Did the fuel filter as well... That had it's moments of controlled aggression too. More later !

              God work
I think the return hose has a one-way valve on it so it doesn't leak back out
