I managed to get my 3b started tonight after refitting a new cylinderhead and rs2 setup but it will only run on four, tested all spark plugs and leads and they all have a good spark. Pulled the injector wires of one at a time and no three is the colprit, however if I feed no three with another injector wire it fires, so I can only assume there is a falt in the feed to injector no three,problem is I dont know how to check the feed so a little help would be much apprecated
If the plug is ok it could be a broken core in the loom
If you check while it is running you should have constant 12V on one pin of the plug (check to known ground) the other is switched to ground by the ECU, so with a meter set on ohms (resistance) you should see the reading going up and down (on/off) depending on which one your missing will give you an idea where to look
You could test one of the injectors that is working so you can see what your looking for
After all that though its more likely going to be the connection in the plug

Yes - the ECU provides a gated path to earth for each injector, so one pin at the injector should be 12V - it is common to all five injectors and shares the same fuse. You can use a meter to check for presence of 12V and that you have continuity back to the ECU for the trigger signal.
Don't forget you can also do output tests from VAGCOM or with jumpers on the OBD plugs - this will have the ECU send five pulses to each injector in firing order. Look tech pages of s2central.net for more info... The injectors click audibly when they are pulsed and a hand on them confirms operation.
A look at the 3B schematics will show you which ECU tracks to the offending injector, but check for presence of 12V first !
