  • Turbo Question

I have a question as i have pretty much no idea about turbo's....

    http://store.yahoo.com/cheapturbo/newgargt63ar1.html

Does this turbo seem to be a gd spec? Im obviously aware that the GT30R name has been bounced around a bit, but have no idea as to what the rest of the specs mean and i know there are a lot of variables involved with turbos....

Any advice \ tips etc appreciated... Also what manifold would this require to be able to fit (if it fits)

Nice turbo, be abit laggy due to A/R size, reckon full boost between 3800-4000 K

bhp limit is over 400 bhp.

The onlt problem mate it's based on the Garret centre section, so you'll have to spend an extra maybe 200 quid on adapters for the water and oil lines.

Forgot to mentiion that unless the exhaust housing (hot side) is based on the K26 then dont think it will fit directly on the manifold! more adaptation

If your looking for a Garrett then this is what your looking out for.

Right i'll just sit and wait till the big boys put an input in.

          Jamo,

0.63 is a pretty low A/R ratio. This turbo will give LESS lag than many others.

As I recall, you have an RS2 EM. As Jamo point out, this means you are committed to a KKK hotside. If you want to get that particular turbo, you will need a T3 flange which means a new EM. I think you will need a different flange on the downpipe as well. This is why people were buying tubular EM's. They could specify the flanges they wanted.

What you are free to choose are the CHRA (or center section) and the cold side.

The nice thing about chosing a Garret CHRA is that they offer ceramic ball bearings. Neat stuff but pricey. The down side is that you have to fabricate new lines. I was talking to Dave Dawson in Colorado. He is an S-Car guy. He says it is not that hard if you don't insist on all metal lines. He makes them for the S4 and would be willing to make them for the S2.

I think the 034efi turbo is a nice piece. I think Javad sources his stuff from Innovative turbo.

Innovative also sells a hybrid. K26 #8 hotside. Garrett non-ball bearing CHRA and a T04E coldside. It is their RS2 equivalent. They say it will make 430HP. I think they may be a bit cheaper than Javad. The nice thing is that it is completely rebuildable if you blow it up.

Or have a 'flange adapter' fitted to mate the T3 turbo flange connect with the KKK sized manifold... Or maybe a custom EM is better if the flange adapter causes problems with location of the turbo and oil/water plumbing.
