1. Friends question: Is there a specific way to install the rods in the engine (must the cuts for the bearings be in a specific side)?
2. My question: Should i use in my engine normal rod bearings (as the origina lones with the hole in the middle for oiling the piston pin) even if my new rods does not oil the pin?
Use either Glyco or OEM RS2 bearings, they are both sputter type shells. They'll have the hole for the rifled oil feed to the little end, so it makes no difference if your new rods don't have the oil feed option. Check the new bearings in the journals with plastigage.
Yes fit the rod the wrong way round and you'll spin a bearing.
Facing the engine with crank pulley to left and flywheel to right. Intake facing you, you want the notches in the rods facing you.
As for bearings only use sputter shells either from main stealer or Kolbe Schmidt. Never been a fan of the glyco ones.
Sputter shell will be fitted in the rod side, normal shell will go in the rod cap. Don't worry about the oil holes in the bearings for the rifle drilling option on some rods.
Glyco make the OEM bearings afaik so dont understand that quote.
Glyco are better than OEM because the OEM ones come scuffed to hell
OEM bearings are made by KS for Audi, Glyco also make OEM bearings. Audi ones come scuffed due to nature of packaging. You run your engine for 50 miles and you wont see the scuffs anymore, it's cosmetic rather than structural. I personally just don't like Glyco ones due to a failure back in the days of playing with V8's. Never had an issue with a KS bearing so automatically favour them, doesn't make them any worse just dont like them.
As for images there will be some in the Bentley service manual. But yes notches face intake manifold.
Boresize = piston sideskirt measurent as instructed by supplier + clearance as instructed by manufacturer. For Factory specs see Bentley manual.
