Crankposition/Engine speed sensor testing with lappy

As per the other thread I was going to try this and it is possible. I'll try it on the actual car tomorrow and set it up to gat some meaningful measurements but it looks like a sound idea.

The theory behind it says piggybacking the laptop with a home made y cable should be ok too. If mine very starts again I'll try it.

Oh, take a look at the home made 'flywheel pin' simulator

    .

How are you going to make sure the crank and cam pulses are lined up?

This is from my 7A, dizzy and crank pulse.

Was more an excercise to see if it could be done and look at individual signals. In theory its possible to do 2 channels but you'll need a lappy with Line in rather than mono mic in.

I's like to play with it more later once I have an idea of how the signals should look (remeber theres going to be a low pass filter and ac coupling in the lappy so will never look as good as a scope) pulse widths etc and try and do a simple 'its good/its screwed' for those two sensors.

Nice fluke btw, swap it for my Metex?

        .

Yep, tis good to know if the sensor is working properly. Me, dont have a laptop so thats the reason for the Fluke.

Swap, noooooooooooooo, the Fluke is so damn good, and portable.
