My S4 seams to stay at one notch above 50c on the temp gauge all the time so i think the thermostat is shot as its not getting up to tempreture. I will replace it soon but was wondering how you go about bleeding the coolant system afterwards? There is no bleed screw on the rad as far as i can tell?
How is the URS4 coolant system bled?

Sometimes, it's not the thermostat at all, just a bad signal from the MFTS which drives the temp gauge. You might want to do a diagnostic using the climate control head (if you have the automatic climate control) as per this Thermostat DIY post:

Or have a look at this MFTS post:

Personally, I have replaced my thermostat and never worried about bleeding the system, just get the thermostat oriented as show in the diagram in the first post and turn up the heater to get water flowing through the heater core.Last edited by UrS4boy; 7 March 2010, 23:05.RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan

Thermostat isn't too bad to replace on the S4 if you've got some knuckle socket extensions. Just remove the intake hose to the inlet manifold.'93 S4 Avant now back on the road complete with new shiny go faster bits.Comment
