    AAN ECU Questions

    Gents,

I am looking to buy another ECU as I want to have one Home Fried and one normal.

This raises a number of questions with swapping them over that I would like some knowledge on that I am sure we have here.

    1) My car is an Auto, can a manual ECU be used as I know the Auto has its own ECU?

    2) My car is a 1996 model (95.5 C4), to my knowledge being this age and ODBI does this mean there will be no issues with alarms/ Imobilisers?

I know A4s and later Audis have to have the ECU matched to the Dash/ Keys?

Anything else I need to be carefull off? I just want to make sure before I buy another ECU I am not going to have any major headaches!

    1) yes, only the software is different
    2) immo has to be adapted with vcds or workshop equipment

I have developed chips for AAN automatic with limited mid range torque but still having same max hp levels in upper revs as in manual version. PM me if you're interested.
Dunno if Paul has also done the same

      Thanks for the quick reply.

So by what you have stated the plan of taking a Manual S6 ECU that has been chipped it would not be wise to put into an Auto S6?

Secondly, I am not sure if I have an Immob, just the standard alarm. If the car does have an Immob then I need to use VAGCOM to adapt? If so so how complex is this process?

Anything else I need to be aware off?

All cars have immos since model year 1995.
Using the manual version has some drawbacks. First of all depending on the boost and torque levels you might destroy your transmission. Secondly the rpm limit is too high. That's not a problem unless you lock a gear. Over revving the transmission puts it into limp mode. Thirdly idle control is slightly different with automatic sw. Idle is raised when the car is moving to provide better lubrication in the transmission.
My sw has been aimed to provide max 400Nm of torq which has been proven in many cars not to be too much

Are you sure a manual UrS4/S6 ECU will work in an Automatic car? I know the manual harness lacks pins that are used by the autotrans and that the ECU for the Autotrans cars has a different part number than the ECU for the manual trans cars.

Is the manual trans ECU fully capable of hand-shaking with the automatic transmission controller ECU but the connections are just not needed with the manual trans?

Yes I'm sure. The difference is not in the hardware of the ecu.
