    3b fan owners...

Trying to work out if mine is dead whilst its out of the car or not.....when i turn it by hand it feel like the second hand on a clock - what i mean is rather than a smooth turning motion it kinda turns with a motion like the second hand on a clock - is this right of does it indicate the end of its life. Am wondering if this is the problem why its probably drawing so much current on start up and causing the terminals on the connector to show heat damage.

Thoughts please before i go and reinstall it. With the summer journey it has planned, i need and want every aspect of the cooling circuit 100%

Its called 'cogging' many high power electric motors like this do it. Its possible the motor is developing an internal fault such as shorted windings etc. I'd sat bring it down the shop but thats a beast of a motor on that thing and all I'd be able to do is meter it and compare against my ABY one. You are welcome to pop it over though.

You can get the ABY / ADU ones off Bosch for reasonable money if it is dying mate

How simple is the swap - i guess you need the resistor pack etc right?

Thanks to Ric - nice to meet you btw I think we can assume the fan is fubar'd. I'm off on the hunt for something suitable unless anyone has any suggestions. Looking for minimal additional leccy work as I am a numpty when it comes to this stuff plug and play has got to be the best solution or i am stuffed i think

Thanks dude. As I sasid, really want happy about the state of that fan but did think after you left that it may be worth going as far back into that loom as you can get and replacing the wiring. ABY Has two fan fuses, there is a resistor somewhere and a relay too I think.

Wiring for what you have is here

Now confused about that ally affair on the top of the condensor. Robs ABY Avant has the same as yours and the manual I have says thats the standar setup for the AC and nothing is in that third position. God knows where the setup on mine came from :S or what that missing sensor is.

hmm, so been making some enquiries with Bosch and basically the fan motor was discontinued with no supercession in June 2006.

For reference the Bosch part number is 0.130.109.238 DPE 12V Axial

The nearest match (though not direct) is 0.130.109.207 DPE 12V Axial - awaiting availability and prices currently but apparently was a direct fit on an Audi 5000 2.2!

                          The details are here:

I'm in contact with Bosch suggested specialist: Ellis Components - 01773 873151
If you want to contact Bosch UK - 01895 878197
