Rods for an I5: Diesel Rods, to be exact

    Hey guys,

So today i was talking to an instructor at school about my plans for S4 and how i need to put some forged rods in it.

He said that he had heard of someone using some VW diesel rods in there I5 20VT and said they worked great!! He doesnt know if the person was right, but i figured i would talk to the experts, ha!

What do think??? Can i do this? Has anyone heard of people doing this??

    not correct from memory.

rods from 16v and 20v are the same. diesel not the same IIRC.

best option is just get some scats and have the balanced andf weight matched.

the solution for rod bolts on facftory rods for some more RPM instead of the costly arp VW/audi ones was a set of ford 289. grind corners off. jobs a good'n

Big end is "same" as with petrol engine. At least AEL rods are correct length. But the thing is diesel has 26mm small end as compared to 20mm seen in petrol engines.

Most likely diesel rods can take a beating and shrug it off, being intended for engines that operate knocking rather than without knock
All quattro products have been dermatologically tested, and are safe for daily use.

Hmmm, that sounds good. I could do a spacer on the wrist pin. Are AAN pistons full floating pistons and rods?

Which VW did those rods come out of?

            If I Recall Correctly

I'm sure I still have 2 sets of Tdi rods that I removed from an AEL engine. I'll have a look in the garage and let you know.

You think they will work in an AAN with some bushings on the wrist pins?

Would you want to sell them?
