    Flywheel noise and vag-com

Howdy again, and sorry to crash the site with non S2 stuff!

On my AAN engined S6's both have a funny sounding metalic 'jingling' sound coming from the bell housing area, only when free reving the cars. Is this usually, as i suspect, the dual mass flywheel starting to fail.

And secondly, and totally unrelated, i have vag-com and all the leads, but it will not communicate, anyone in the nottingham area know how to use this and could help me out?

Thats a nasty noise that will need engine out for proper investigation.

As to VAGCOM - first of all check you get +12V on the black OBD plug when ignition is on... does that VAGCOM setup work on another car of similar age ?

Yeh its not a nice noise, if i engage a gear and just (even very lightly) find the clutch biting point, the noise goes altogether which is what is making me think it is flywheel or clutch. Next Christmas i plan to have the gearbox rebuilt for a whining first gear (think my car has had a hard life!). So i will investigate then! Is there a solid flywheel coversion i can fit to the car at this point? from an earlier car maybe?

Yes, try to get a 3B clutch from Sachs and a 7A or 3B flywheel. It will makes the engine rev easier in the lower gears, although in some cases add a little bit of noise (clatter). I find it not annoying, but that comes also because my exhaust is so loud

Noise could also be clutch release bearing.

mate has a subaru in the garage today with that exact issue. start engine can here a noise like an old football rattle. ease on clutch and it goes.

we suspect either a crank issue or pressure plate.

Thanks for that, is the 7A and 3B flywheel/clutch the same as each other? Not too bothered about the noise, so long as it isn't a fault if you know what i mean! Is there any other downsides? i.e, is the clutch any smaller than the standard AAN unit?

Hi James, yeh i'm sure it is my own fault in some way, i'm not the best at installing stuff

Also for my other one we still need to sort a 300hp ECU
