    Turbo charging my RE2500?

just an idea at the moment really. It my turn in to more tho, dunno.

I was wondering about trying to turbocharge my 2.5L 10valve engine.

Obviously I would need a 10vt inlet and exhaust manifolds. And then run some form of control unit rather than the K-jet system.. to make things easier.

Would I be able to keep the compression ratio? or would it be too high?

What sort of cost are we talking, ball park figure , just to get everything I would need and get it setup and running?

Also, what kind of power/torque should I expect from such an engine?

Can this be done? Clearly though I really don't want to blow the engine up or anything.

    I'm all ears..

I think You should sell me the 10v engine and use the money to get a 20v engine with motronic and all.

I was going to do the same thing when i had the engine until the ABY came up.

Its not a hard job tbh, i would definitely reduce the CR use a copper spacer gasket i think you may be able to get one from 034MS but you would have to check that it will accommodate the bore size of the re2500.
Use URQ bits for all the turbo stuff.
Then fit 034 EFI, dead easy! No reason why you wouldn't see close to chipped s2 power figures.

Also may be worth confirming with the more knowledgeable people on here that the re2500 engine will have enough wall thickness between the bored cylinders to cope with turbo-charging.

Your talking £2500 in parts costs before fitting and setting it up.... Would be great to see a different take on tuning as opposed to just the easy route of a 20vT but bear in mind its expensive and you'd be better with forged internals now during the rebuild to save any costs of unforseen accident damage in the future.

id not bother with it presuming its a counter flow head.

          fit the aby.

why would you want such an engine repo? is it for certain racing?

Anyone measured up some Volvo IL5 cranks? I asked someone to measure the main journals & spacing for me, haven't got any reply yet. I know they have different strokes like 90mm on the T5's, and some TDI's are 95,5... The C70's are 93,2mm IIRC.

Got a 2.5 non turbo volvo engine here but not bothered with it yet, its purely there for researching...
From memory the engine layouts are wildly different and so its not really a go ahead using volvo bits.

It's just the crank.. only thing of interest is journal size for the main caps and roughly the spacing. The rest is relativly easily to overcome.

I was under the impression that not only was the stroker crank of forged chrome molybdenum, but the rest of the engine also already has forged pistons and forged con-rods? (+ bigger valve & gas flowed head) Will these components not suffice?

                          its high compression so no.

power is all about flow. the design of the head is not great. mounting the turbo and inlet on the same size has manifold and turbo implications.

ower delivery also suffers. 2v tends to generate on/off switch cars. combustion chamber design doesn't help with detonation.

id expect a mildly tuned 16v engines to be as good as the 2.5 RE engine for performance.

buy a cheap 100 turbo engine for like £200-300 put the bits on and see what happens lol 5psi of boost or so isnt going to hurt it, and should make it a bit faster.

thats a lot of work for 30hp or so.

under 7psi and no IC is needed really.

for reference my mate got 50hp maybe 60hp from fitting a procharger to a subaru sport. no IC stock management.
