    Oil mixing with coolant /s6

Hi has anyone ever had any similar symptoms of oil mixing with coolant in the engine, engine isnt pressurising, no visible signs of steam from the exhaust, no signs of water in the sump, some gunk on dipstick, little on oil cap,
I have only acquired car and done about 500 miles, uses about 1 liter of water on short journeys and is also losing a little oil, have lifted the head off the morning ,no visible head gasket failure, and dropped the head off for testing, ,all the insides of pipes and water vains all have oil gunk on them, also fresh oil mixing with coolant is visible in expansion bottle, car is a 1996 s6 aan engine, any ideas would really help ,thanks

If the head gasket hasn't failed, it would make you think its a cracked head or block. Does it have ARP head bolts?

I would be looking at a cracked head as Djones says as if you cant see any gasket failure not many other options open ...turbo ok..no issues with water and oil lines?.....

            Headgasket failure.

            There is various combinations,

            Oil water mixing
            water and combustion chamber mixing
oil leaking out of side of block

or if a real bad one

oil water mixing and water system pressurising.

Corrosion of the water ways in the head caused by the wrong antifreeze or running with out is a possibility btdt.

be careful with that, cuz if too much water goes into the cylinder it will bent VERY VERY easy a conrod and then you will have more damages instantly inside the engine (remember water cannot be compressed)... If I were you, I'd stop the car asap and take the cyl head off...then go directly to the problem.

As far as i can tell no water is entering piston chambers, car is not hard 2 start, all pipes are fine no leaks that i can see, as i said i have pulled head off and no visible headgasket issues, hopefully head will b tested this week but the engineer thinks because there is no pressurising issues or sign of gasket failure, chances are he might not find any problems, anyone ever heard of similar issues with these engines

When ARP bolts are used you dont tighten them as per OEM head bolts. If you do it can crush/crack the head as they are not stretch bolts.

Where can I find the correct tightening value for ARP?
