Right, blokey replaced that hall sender yesterday. went out for a quick spin last night starts and drives OK.However, on way to work this morning, coming down a decent stretch of dual carriageway, decided to open it up a bit.Somewhere about 3.5-4k the car feels as though its being strangled or something and its holding back.Is this related to the fitting of the HS, or is it yet another leak/limp mode
mmmm can pull codes for you at Combe if yer there. That 'holding back' feeling can be mixture or timing related. Hard to say from here, but theres lots of possibilities - was the car misbehaving before this work was carried out ? Maybe something has been disturbed in the process....

Paul..Are you bringing your compressor with you to Combe?
I think I've got a boost leak that needs tracking down. If not, do you have a plug for the MAF>Turbo hose, so I can take a trip to the local garage and pressure test the system?

Steve - I'm not bringing the compressor to Castle Combe but I do have a spare MAF hose bung you can borrow for a while. Just remembered - do you have a wee AC inverter of mine kicking around ? Maybe Greg has it in his place - it was borrowed ages ago - errr I think.

Dean,
Check the cam timing, the cam pulley would have had to come off to change the hall sender. I'm not saying it has, but the timing may be off a few teeth or worse the key on the pulley may have broke off as we have seen them do and it may be slipping around the shaft . The symptoms you describe could be cam timing out. Best to check mate.
Who did the work Dean? If it feels like the boost is kicking in late it does sound like Mark has suggested - and if it is that I would not drive it until it is fixed.
The Porsche bloke who sorted out the top end overhaul.....I spoke to him prior to doing it and he was(made ) aware of the situation with locking the cam/ woodruff issue....How do you check/correct the timing or how would you know if the key has sheared
Turn the cambelt until the mark on the cam pulley is at the arrow on the cam cover. Remove the cam cover and check the 2 circles on each of the cams are aligned together (exhaust cam mark will be at the 3 o'clock position and the inlet cam will be at the 9 o'clock position - looking from the front of th eengine) you should only see 2 halfs of the circles.
Is the boost late coming in all the time now? or is it boosting but a small hesitation through 4k?

...... a bit of both, but probably more the latter. To be honest when it did it i cr4pped myself and eased of the gas for fear of something going ping . I had to drive the car home but did not go over 2k.......
Oh BTW, it would not start again this morning

I had a similar problem with my S2. After lots and lots of tests and checks my problem turned out to be a dirty MAF that was sucking through oil from the K&N panel filter. I cleaned the MAF, replaced the K&N with the paper filter, and hey presto Hope your's is as simple as that
