    Helicoil Spark Plug

Had to perform keyhole surgery today on a 20vt ABY.

It had suffered the loose spark plug syndrome and then ate away all the threads...

I must admit I was not looking forward to doing the job, but turned out to be, not a bad task at all. I purchased a V-Coil set from eBay £40 landed next day delivery. 14mm x 1.25.

I had to file down the end of the tap so that it was a tight fit into a socket, then carefully cut the new thread using a half inch ratchet, no drilling required!

I had to cut and extend the V-coil insert tool as it was not long enough to reach down in the head.

Screwed the new v-Coil into position, 1/2 thread lower than mating face of spark plug and then snapped off the fitting tab.

Hoovered the plug hole out while turning the engine over.

Fitted the plug, and job done.

    All good

Here's a better idea. Check your plugs for proper torque (22 lb ft/ 30 Nm) and recheck every so often. Neglect is the cause of this problem.
