Hy! Can somebody explain me please, wy the rod bearing locking pins have to be on the right side off the engine looking from the puley side? Is the piston pin hole offset from the cranckshaft hole?
Maibe somebody knows.
Thank You!
Regards!
Eugen
Good question, the stock rods and rod caps are marked with a forward orientation to ensure you dont put the cap on the wrong way around. I dont see any reason why you cant install the rods the other way around as long as the rod and cap are facing the same way. All the oil holes are centred so it wont effect them either way.
Aftermarket rods wont have any markings but i marked mine to ensure they went in the same way as the originals. Audi went to the effort to mark them a specific way so i trust they did it for a good reason
I know that the pins from the rod and cap have to be on the same side, i thought that maibe is important to have them on the left side and not on the right, this thing i dont know, something related to stress during turning or offset holes....dont know..
In the repair manual they say that the pins have to be on the same side and in plus..that mark from the rod and cap has to point towards the pulley side...so both pins will be on the right side off the engine. iff the rods will be instaled opposite...is there any problems?
I asq this because i will install Scat's on my engine and i whant to know iff i should keep original configuration or dosint matter?
Thank You!
Regards!

I believe the standard piston has an offset gudgeon pin, this minimises piston slap as on the compression stroke as at rod is pushed always from the same side having the pin closer minimises sideways forces.
Piston also has a bit cut out for the oil squirter
