    Coupe 2.0 16v Head Gasket

    Hi guys,
    Ive got a 1993 2.0 16v Coupe with 170k on the clock.
Gearbox is in lovely condition, had a new clutch not long ago as well as tyres, pads, discs, shocks, wishbones.

Gasket is on its way out, i just want to make sure its going to be worth it considering the mileage.
    Body is in perfect nick.
My mechanic mate quoted me 250-300 labour plus any necessary parts, no skimping on anything. If im going to do it im GOING TO DO IT!

I dont have the money to buy an S2 or something that is at least going to last me a while without hassle, so is this worth it?

get an abf gasket and the head skimmed first.

thats about 80 quid for the 2. then get a tensioner and belt, perhaps a water pump too. thats another 40 or 50 maybe.

you then need headbolts. not sure on costs here. arps are about 100 quid.

whilst the heads off its worth taking the cams out and soaking the lifters in oil. this will give them a clean and keep them loose.

so maybe 200 in parts. plus labour.

it all depends on what else is an option. the car may only be worth a small amount but replacing it with xxx costs xxx. its personal math this really.

          head gasket i used vw.
arps. i went to summit racing.

its worth getting a full gasket kit from ECP. if the headgasket is not metal then get one of those. the ABF uses one. (2l 16v mk3 golf gti.)

I got a gasket kit from euro car pats and it came with everything, even stem seals. Was a victor reinz kit and had a metal gasket. The part No. is 02-29305-07, They do 2 kits for the 16v and the only difference is the rocker cover gasket. The one with this part No. was wrong for my engine but i put a genuine one on it anyway. The other part No. is 02-29305-04 this is for the other style rocker cover gasket.

If you send me a pm with your email i can email you a victor reinze audi catalogue or if someone can host it on the website or something, its a small pdf, got all the audi models in it.

Here is a link to my 16v project over on audifans: - *LINK*

I also got headbolts from euro too, they were febi ones so resonable quality.
