    Flywheel repair?

It is with great dissapointment I have found the problem with my RR..after replacing everything I was left to check the teeth on the flywheel and it looks like 1 tooth has been chipped off by 2mm ...The car can start but after 2K its a popping banging affair

Anyway ...I am looking at having to take engine out to repair flywheel or is there another super dupper way that can save doing that ?

The flywheel is rare as rocking horse poo so looks like I will have to send to machine shop and see if they can weld tooth back on

Anybody got experience in this or advice

    Cheers

What? Rare? Welding? Don't panic!. Situation is not so bad at all.

Flywheel is the same as on any non S2 88-91 audi turbo manual. urq/100/200 doesn't matter, just "flat flywheel with big hole and timing pin". Starter gear ring is same on all "flat" flywheels with 240mm clutch of that era. It is possible to replace it (heating and cooling does the trick), however I don't like messing with it. It takes certain skill to put it on, also can messing with it may lead to balancing issues.

What looks more wise for me is to find other flywheel in good condition, flatten/polish work surface at machine shop (few thousands only!), buy new clutch, as it is gearbox out/engine out (depending on taste) job anyway. You will need new flywheel bolts (and clutch ones preferably). Don't save on them, they are punny ant not reuseable.

I've struggled before to get a flywheel from a RR or 200 20vt over here and I know a few other people have as well. Are they cheap abroad then?

you say that after 2k the car is doing what?
I have a rr on my urs4 and after 6k the engine fires in the exhaust and vag com is showing a rpm sensor error.(changed sensors, ecu, nothing helped).

I have never taken one off and could see that being a bit of a pain. To put a new one on get the flywheel in the freezer and the ring gear in the oven as hot as it will go then it just drops on.

The fault shows up as ignition timing out ..firing out of sync....took a bit of time to track fault but the give a away was the starter motor clicking when turning over ,,when it came to the one tooth missing must of caused it to slightly slip

Have got a old guy (blacksmith that is pretty old skool ) he is going to fit new ring for me ..has all the proper gear
