Buy a GT2871R or GT3071R with KKK flange. 034MS sells them.
Or buy an old skool k26/27/29 for brutal torque and slow spooling

Depends on your budget best K26 option is the one DJones runs but it's very expensive

Don't mean to kinda hijack this thread but, is that the general train of thought? GT stuff being ''new skool'' and the KKK stuff being ''old skool'' ???

Which is better? and what charictoristics do new and old have? I'm asking simply out of curiosity as my mind is made up but, i'm a mechanic but never had anything to do with turbo cars but am eager to learn a bit more. Why are the KKK's slow to spool for eg???

one thing is the journal bearing vs ball bearing. Then, wheel design.

Yeh thats one thing, i was more asking about there spool and lag etc. Generally how they behave and why. And yes i know asking this out of interest makes me a sad git before anyone says it first, but i no longer care!!

There are quite a few threads discussing the relative merits of GT turbos, KKK, Holset, CT etc. etc. Have a look at the sticky threads and do a search for any specific questions

Newer turbos can sustain the air flow over a greater rpm range normally up to redline and beyond

KKK turbo have the characteristics of a slower spool and producing more air and peak flow in a narrower band therefore they drop off higher up the rev range and have a bigger torque spike.

Ball bearings and billet wheels play a big part.

KKK turbos if you get one best thing to do is get a 360 bearing fitted to them to help with journal life

Thanks Jamo, i know you probably disagree but i like the idea of old skool turbo behaviour, sounds like they feel more like what i think of old fashoned turbo cars to feel like! :mischeif:

And i fully take on board about the 360 bearing! What does the 360 refer to exactly?

Depends, you can get both characteristics with the CT turbos via Repo dunno if they come in K26 flange though.

Also there are precesion turbos and holset

or the GT journal bearing line (garrett), quite cheap as well.

Are they both mainly for big bhp work?
