    AAN Head gaskets

    Howdy,

Does anyone on here know when audi started building the AAN engines with the metal layered head gaskets as opposed the the earlier composite items??

I am wanting to go the K26/K27 turbo route via Hoffer76 and have been advised to check that my car is fitted with a metal gasket before going ahead with the work, i susspect the head has been off at sometime in its lifetime.

If its any help my engine has a build date of sometime in Feb 1995, hope someone can help as, even though head off isn't a bad job i'd rather leave be if there is no need yet!

you need to check the car itself it's not definitive on year of the engine, you can tell by runnig your finger under the head feel for the metal gasket.

Thanks Jamo, Is there a certain spot on the engine is easier to get to? I take it'd be magnetic too?

If its not metal on there it changes plans a little as once the heads off i may as well change rods!

big step swopping rods just cos the hads off innit mate?!
took me 45 mins to rip the head off mine.....

have a look down the side of the head on the passenger side, you will see brass rivet keeping the layers together somewhere.

gaskets are £40.99+vat from the dealers, my mocal one had 11 ordered into stock (TPS loughton) when i rang them

Thanks dude!! Yeh its a big step money wise but its simply the work involved in changing them and the time the car would be off the road putting me off going new rods and even more boost , not the money.

Thanks for the help and the A4 looks a very handy wepon :mischeif: if i see you on the road it's safe to say its 1 A4 i won't be flashing out of the way

right, easyest for me to see it is in front of exhaust manifold theres nothing in the way.
you might have to pull your belt cover forward to see it but im not running one so its right there

              hope this helps

another thing to be careful of as i found out putting metal gasket on, if the head is pitted it will leak water! my head wasnt badly pitted and only removed to change bent valves, when put back together it leaked out of the front corner

                  figures..... not many lol!
standard AAN except 1.2bar boost and twin side mount intercoolers for the minute

was gonna fit 440cc injectors and RS2 turbo but after chat with few folk and looking over articles i dunno what to do.

i have 034 stage IIc ECU here to fit, but unsure what setup.

i also have a AAT 2.5 block and a new GT42R i bought for my cossie but didnt use

may just go the tried and tested RS2 route for now or GT3076R too many choices!
its a daily drive so cant be off the road now.

The turbo decision does have way too many choices!! I'm looking at upgrading mine this coming winter. I thought of going RS2 but think i'm decided on K26/K27 hybrid instead.

I asked by good friend Kate about head gasket 034103383AA and she says that it was dropped in favour of the current 034103383AD on 30/09/1994, i.e. early in the 1995 S6 model year run.

At least that is what I think she is saying. Dames
