AAN 4 pin water temp sender help please

right chaps,as some of you know i have fitted an AAN into a B5 A4 chassis and basicaly im running an after market water temp gauge.

i wanna know what the 4 pins in the water temp sensor do, what they send a signal to etc.

i know the ECU uses the rear water temp sender to adjust fuel mixture, does the 4 pin one in the water rail purely control the fan/temp gauge?

i need to know what pins to take a feed from to make the gauge on my origional A4 clocks take a reading, i.e top left and bottom left pin will read resistance of **ohms etc

    help much much appreciated lads

I take it this is the one under the intake manifold?

If so it is often referred to as the MFTS (Multi Function Temperature Sender), there are a fair few threads with information/links if you have a search for MFTS as I was reading up on it with regard to my multi malfunctioning temp sender.

    Some info here
