Timing Belt Video - is this normal?

    Hey guys.

Just saw this yesterday when I was playing with the Autronic.

Is this movement of the timing belt OK/normal?

Looks like the problem comes from the front pulley. Is the crank bolt and pulley still intact? Not cracked of loose?

          quattro, Bram, S2central thanks.

I have no idea. I just saw this yesterday, and seemed odd that is was moving so much, haven't done anything else with it yet.

likely the crack sprocket keyway is smashed and the bolt is loose, causing the bottom pulley to wobble.

I had this issue and a very narrow escape from disaster! Get it looked at immediately!

Seems to be occuring with each revolution of the belt rather than each rotation of the pulley. I'd say belt is stretched on one side or worse, when was belt last replaced? Either way get it checked before it snaps or comes off...

It's pretty new. Only has 5 000 KM or so on it.

Thanks again guys. Appreciate all the input/help.

                    Good point there.

Also check the cam pulley as it has a 'keyway' too IIRC

                      Here are some pictures.

I started to car to check further.

This part was shacking, so it seems like this is the problem:

When I stopped the car I found this:

So needless to say it's getting towed to Jonus-Racing. The only company I really trust with my car.

                      Thanks again guys!

Good spot. Be sure also to inspect what might have caused that damage to your timing belt. Never seen such thing before TBH

Will do. I'll update this thread once Jonus figured out what happened. It might be useful for someone else down the road. It will probably be a couple of weeks at least. He has to get his S2 ready and we gotta figure out how to transport the car (2 hour trip).

                          *update*
The timing belt was traveling back and forth because of the rift (pictured) in the timing belt. A new timing belt was all that had to be done to fix the problem.
