OK. Thanks for the feedback.
There is never any mention of any of these issues on the website, and it was the same with other B4 related items and fitment for (RHD B4) downpipes, and engine mounts.
Maybe I'm incorrect and such issues may have been resolved, but it's my own, admittedly limited, impression. Having said that lots of their stuff for B4s is fine, and to be encouraged.

Jamo,
Do you reckon that the GT2871RS is the best "common easy available" upgrade for an ABY S2 where one wants say 350 or just under 400 bhp, but with as early a spool up as possible, i.e. to have as little lag as possible?
I presume you would feel the GT2860 is too small for an ABY where small lag is the goal and more power than a chipped std ABY is a secondary bonus that comes with the GT2860 ?
DJ J**** uses a turbo "CT357" or "MD357" ???, ( not sure of the exact spec or name, i know that isn't very accurate / precise
) which gives very good results.
Would a small version of this turbo be a useful route or is it too specialized?
I suppose the route I'm dreaming about is a GT2871RS (or something that gives an earlier spool, but not more power at the top end than a GT2871RS, combined with a new type Homefry, RS2 airbox, cat bypass, with the possibility of a Wagner RS2 Evo exhaust manifold in the future, and then further on again a Wagner reverse inlet manifold and matching bigger intercooler.
Cams, engine management, ignition coils, pistons, rods, down-pipe, to be left standard, but good/new condition, with all mods being bolt on rather than requiring medium to serious expertise or fabrication skills.
Way into the future/dreams - rods and down-pipe and exhaust but only if I had to, as I'd want to be driving it as a daily rather than continually fixing it or upgrading it.
Had enough of that as per my signature.
Thanks for indulging me, hopefully this thread is of interest to others also who want a little bit more poke with as little lag as possible, and want to be able to do it themselves outside their house type of level.
Kind regards.Last edited by macspring; 1 July 2010, 07:56.Comment

The big thing with the garretts is you have to replace water and oil lines so you need to factor that into your cost and then chipset for the turbo and injectors
The 3 cheapest bolt on upgrades are RS2, 2871 and K26/K27 as they have generic chipsets available
I would say the 2871 is a viable bolt on upgrade as there is now a generic chipset and then you have the hoffer76 k26/k27 and chipset
One other thing to consider is how you want your car to feel, if you want torque and that old skol sudden rush go for the K26/K27 or RS2
If you want a smoother pull over the rev range go for the garretts as they wil produce more bhp to redline but they dont have the torque of the KKKComment

S2central.net has been playing with GT2871, there's a thread somewhere, is it diesel des that owns the car? Worth a look, Nip for the Hoffer upgrade and there are 1001 RS2 upgrade threads on here to get info from. There are other turbos that will do the same sorts of things like Holset, CT, T04 hybrid etc. Depends if you want tried and tested or feel a need to be different...Cheers'en, AndyC

i am using a Hoffer´s k26/27 with 360 bearing
and i am very happy with it¡¡
my last turbo was the RS2 one "k24 7200" and i liked it so much too.
i bet that the RS2 one has better spool up than 26/27 BUT k26/27 has more power since 3500rpm
very good turbos anyway without ANY oil/water and exhaust mods
i think that there are more chipsets available for the RS2 turbo around in the market

Thanks to all posters,
hopefully, will soon have my Avant back on the road, will want to be driving it as a daily to enjoy it again, and then when I get used to a turbo again, and find the funds will decide on the next step, thanks again.

David,
Great to see you getting the car back on the road!! After all you went through, I know how hard it is to find the motivation to keep the car and get on with it. Feels damn good when you get it out for a drive though, especially when you do the work yourself (with forum help of course
)
Look forward to seeing it progress... now I've had mine on the road I'm starting to get those damn niggling feelings too. Like you, trying to be sensible this time round
Cheers
