PCV (Yes not the first topic!!)

I've read through a number of Catch tank and PCV topics but one thing I can't find an answer for is the pancake pressure control valve on an ABY engine; is it really needed or can it be replaced with just an elbow??

As you can see on my engine I don't have one and hence the question.... Catch tank can come later but for now I want to know if removing that restrictor will cause a problem?? (yes I understand that when it closes the crankcase pressure is fed into the TB and not the pipe b4 the turbo. and not having it I will need to block of the pipe leading to the TB...)

and while you;re looking... whats missing and what does it do (Right hand lower of the three rings btw!)!!!???

Your photo links did not work so we can not see what you are talking about. (Use the attach files feature available here).

In the meantime, you might want to read this (for an AAN but basically the same as ABY):

    The Audi Enthusiast website. Forums for all Audis including A4, S4, A5, S5, A6, S6, allroad, A8, S8, TT, R8, Q5, Q7, 4000, 100, 200, v6, v8, vintage, local forums

Unless you go catch can before the "pancake" (Pressure control) valve, IMO, you need it.
