Ive just been looking through my cars records and i see it had a front pipe replaced back in 96. This was fixed because of "a noise under acceleration..."

Dunno if this will apply to your car, just thought i would let you know Leigh.

      Cheers Tom

When you say 'front pipe' what do you mean

The car is still showing a 2413 fault code too

I've checked the EM as best I can today but had real trouble getting the heat shield off. I removed all the bolts I could see including one you have to get to from underneath but it was still attached somewhere just underneath the cam cover breather pipe. How do I get it off?

Anyway there are no obvious black marks around it and I felt into the places i couldn't see and nothing on my hands afterwards.

Is there anyway of testing it without taking it off? How easy is the EM to get off without taking the head off the car?

        Cheers

according to S2 central blink codes pages it's something to do with the mixture adjustment and it suggests it could be the following:

            Fuel pressure too low
            Ignition system faulty
Leakage in exhaust system before catalyst
            Incorrect signal from G70

Could be one of the last 2 I suppose but the MAF (G70?) is OK AFAIK.

Test the MAF signal. with engine idling, find the wire with about 0.5v on it. Then blip the throttle WOT breifly it should rise to about 4.5v at full throttle.
