Question about RS2 exhaust cam into AAN (or ABY)

I know (think) that the RS2 exhaust cam, when installed in the ADU head, is set up 10 degrees differently than it would be if it was an AAN (or ABY) exhaust cam in an AAN/ABY head. However, I *think* this is because the 10 degrees is expected by the ADU Motronic ECU (and it all works). However, I am about to install an RS2 exhaust cam in my otherwise completely RS2'd AAN and do NOT know whether I need to "tilt" the RS2 cam 10 degrees or just install it as if it was an AAN exhaust cam (since the AAN ECU (with MRC chips) isn't aware of the 10 deg ADU compensation).

    What is the correct answer?

    (Thanks in advance)

I want to know exactly the same thing for my engine build, ABY converted to ADU spec.

From my understanding you set the timing differently for ADU cams no matter what engine there going into. Bit i dont really understand is the difference in the ADU hall sender window, i assume the different position is only to correct the 10 degree change from the different timing belt setup above. But which pulley do you use for MRC or Homefry RS2 spec chips in an ABY ecu?

My thoughts are similar to yours re: the cam sprocket and cam sensor shutter/window. I would be re-using my AAN cam sprocket and cam sensor shutter.

The 10 degrees comes from the change of cam wheel, if you want the rs2 timing you need to install the rs2 cam wheel

Thanks Jamo. And if I don't want the RS2 timing and re-use the AAN cam wheel, will there still be (some) benefit to the higher lift/longer duration of the RS2 exhaust cam?

If you run the ADU software and cams I would suggest you use the ADU camwheel instead of the AAN one.

Also you have to skip 1 tooth on the cam belt at the cam wheel in the ADU setup (like in the picture). I think the ADU setup will suffer from the wrong AAN cam wheel timing, as the ECU expects the normal ADU setup.

The ADU cam wheel will have the same part number as the ABY/ABY one, but at the end the letter B added. See also the Letter B stamped in the 'golden' ring inside the cam wheel as reference.

So in essence there is no difference in the ADY or ABY chipsets, they both expect to see the hall sensor window within a certain crank angle range?

Next question, can i use an adjustable pulley like the Dahlback unit and set it -10degrees to emulate the ADU pulley while leaving the hall sensor window in the correct location? Or do you have that much range of adjustment in them?

Thanks Bram. I will be running MRC AAN software and the AAN camwheel so I will not do anything ADU-specific during the install. (Fingers crossed)

Yes, this is what I think is the same for every il5 engine. Hall window should match the FW trigger pin.

I think that is how it works and will work for you. The Dahlback unit works for both ADU and ABY/AAN engines
