Car wont start: ecu very hot

car is a bottomless pit of problems . i think the ecu is fryed the battry is has been run flat due to an electrical fault im guessing so i used jump leads to start the car this morning and it started fine ran sweet. i put the battry on charge then later went to start the car it fires but will not run. the battry is not holding charge and the ecu is very hot when the battry is on charge or jump leads are used to crank the car. is the ecu knackerd? anyone got any idea why the ecu is getting hot or where the best place is to look for the electrical fault?

    Cheers

Might be a bit of a long shot on why battery has gone. have you checked what voltage you are getting from the alternator? Might be over voltage output.

Alternator was giving 12V on the aux guage in the car when the engine was running. any ideas where this short could be? it is draining the batt. its a 3b engine it has 1 ignition wire to the ecu i think. codes given out of ecu last week gave 533 which i think was a short between the isv and ecu could this be causing it?

With engine running on healthy alternator you should be seeing something closer to 14V on that voltmeter gauge... Either the alternator is not putting out sufficient charge, the regulator has failed or you have a huge load that is sucking serious energy out of the system. A short circuit should blow a fuse of course.

If you aren't good with electrics then it probably needs the once over by a decent auto spark. Can be tricky trying to root cause these things over tinternet unless there is some electrical knowledge at the sharp end.

the 12v was from vauge memory i do remember checking the guage and seeing normal voltage reading. i have got some basic electrical knowlage. i have had the engine out and it has been in for a few weeks now and been running smooth then today wont start. i will do some testing tomorrow.
