I have an rs2, which i want to upgrade to get around 450 hp,

i was reading some threads in which it stated the conrods would need to be upgraded. Im not quite sure what these are but i presume there inside the engine, can some one advice me on the following.

1) what internal parts of the engine would need upgrading. including mods that which will increase power is boring an option?

2) who can carry out such work in the uk?

3) most important how much would it cost including parts? (break down would be good)

maybe some of u senior guys who do ur own work can carry out the rebuild, at a reasonable price as i think u guys no more about these engines than most people.

if you check out the projects section and read the threads from Mark Halligan, Doug_RS2, Timucin and Audiman.

This should give you an idea of what needs to be done to get those power levels from the 5 pot engine.

For 450bhp and upwards you need deep pockets

Any good engine builder worth his salt will be able to rebuild this engine. However the previous poster are right about reading very extensively here and elsewhere about the best way to modify the audi 5 cyl engine.

You will need deep pockets especially if you don't do it yourself. I know someone who has uprated to *just* RS2 spec and spent in excess of £10k!!!

Conrods are Connecting Rods. They connect the pistons to the crank shaft.

Yeah anyways. Prices for that sort of power are vast. I am doing all the work myself and so far im up to about 3k in parts!!!!

Conrods £800+vat
Pistons £60-600+vat depending on what you do with them
Gaskets £130
Turbo £1200
Machining costs £600
Oil pump £130

The list is endless, it doesnt stop there. The RS2 intercooler isnt really man enough for that sort of power, so a larger one is needed. £300 plus it needs a custom cross member £xxx!!

Dont think that its an easy job, 'Book Time' on removing and installing engine is 12 hours alone. This doesnt include swapping parts, or rebuilding it. That will set you back a further 25 hours+ @£40

Then there is the chipping fee, £350-400 ish

There are only a few ppl in the UK that can balance the 5 pot crank etc. Make sure that they are known for being able to do this. Oh yeah, crankshaft bearings etc will be another £140 +vat. Plus an uprated clutch will be needed £200-600 depending on make

I don't really want to add up what I have spent - but if you give me a visa card I will happily upgrade the engine for you

If you really want an accurate figure of what you would need to spend I will try and come up with a list and costs.

If you are getting into changing rods and pistons then you have to ask yourself is the 450bhp enough or is it really 550bhp you want becasue now is the time to decide before you buy a new turbo.

I think the RS2 IC can cope with 450bhp - its just a bigger one will help keep intakes a bit cooler.
