    Steamcleaning engines....

What are the opinions here on this subject? It has to be safer for the engine than using engine cleanser & your garden hose...no?

I have done it a number of times with varying results.

      Here is my opinion.

Feel free to spray a engine cleaner / degreaser / APC type product liberally. But, only use an open hose or low pressure domestic supply to rinse off. Be very careful around the coil pack / spark plug cover, and wiring at back of head and bulk head. If possible cover with cling film or kitchen foil.

Once finished liberally spray the engine with AG Tyre Dressing and run engine at idle with bonnet closed until dry. Marvel at your beautful engine bay....

If you are careful you SHOULD be fine...

Disclaimer: No liability accepted by myself or the forum should you give yourself a missfire! (When I did get a missfire it lasted a couple of days only!

      Cheers,

I had a mate that worked for BT as a mechanic looking after their fleet, he used to steam clean his Mk2 GTI in work weekly- it melted off all the body cavity wax and it rotted away spectacularly!!
