One other thing, a bad ignitor module could give you the same problem. Had an old BMW that wouldn't start when warm, and a friend had the same fault on his 80Q.

About these marks could someone explain exactly were they are so i can relighn or check that there right when i remove the throttle control 'once again' to sort this hall sensor problem.

      Thanks all for your help!

wait i'm confused, is an ignition module part of the distributer ie the part thats broken the (hall sensor) ,if so yeh i'll have one but if not i'll have to try another distributer first let me me what you think becuse i could pick one up today i'm only in stretford, Whats confusing is the guy who got the fault code seems to think its easier to buy a distrbuter and leads which then would also clear up the crack in lead 3, All problems solved but probably expensive!

Just buy a complete dist. from Audi. mine was £100 which had a metal gear on the end. The hall sender can be replaced, but the new dist. comes with new cap, rotor, sender and metal gear.
