    Oil Flow Diagram (AAN)

Could anyone point me in the direction of an oil flow diagram? I'm particularly interested in where the oil cooler is positioned and is there an alternative route...

    Thanks!

Cant give you a diagram but the oil cooler works of a thermostat within the oil filter housing. When upto temp it opens and diverts through an external cooler to return to the point of origin so to say.

When the oil is up to temperature does it have to flow via the oil cooler or is it only e.g. 50%

AAN Oil Cooler-related PNs and diagrams

The AAN has an oil cooler located behind the small right front grill. The cooler is based on a bracket with an internal thermostat. When the oil temp exceeds the opening point of the thermostat, the oil is directed through the cooler core (which gets air ducted to it from the right front grill) and then the filter and then back into the engine. Here are some diagrams and PNs:

Anyone knows if you can still buy the piston/oil thermostat number 10 on the picture new at the dealer?

Item 10 in the first diagram, PN 034115429, might still be available in the system. But you won't like the price:

That's interesting because I have trouble keeping my oil temps up on my ABY engine.

I run a mocal oil cooler piped from the standard filter housing, when the car is driven fast I can get the oil up to 80-90c but this will fall to 60c if I drive steady for a length of time.

I have the same problem as you. I use a 19 row mocal cooler.

My oil is not getting on temp so i dissembled the thermostat today. Looks all good and it opens nicely when i heat it. Only thing i noticed it is closing slowly.

I also looked at the temperature sender. At the bottom of this side http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/93029.phtml you can see how to check the sensor.

I tested mine in boiling water and noticed it was 160 Omh in stead of 62 Omh @ 100celcius.

so when the oil is 100C the gauge only shows 70C so i have ordered a new sender.

I hope to try it next week!

Yes, Very useful info! Only i think the info on the temperature sender is wrong. I tested the new sender and it also shows 160Ohm @ 100celcius.

I also connected the sender on the car and put it in boiled water. The gauge shows 70c when the water is 100c. So i will try a other gauge now.

I would be interested to know if the thermostat works by positively opening the flow to the oil cooler or by cutting of the internal return in the oil filter housing. I believe it works by cutting off the internal return which means the system relies on the oil in the cooler being cooler and thus thicker to stop flow to the cooler during warm up. If I start my car from cold and don't drive it but leave it stationary, the oil cooler warms up straight away meaning oil is flowing through it from the get go.
