Pound for pound 2.5 will also make more power and torque than a 2.2 no if's no buts at any given power level.lets face it theres nothing wrong with either. the way i see the stroker is it has an additional value of being special. by that i mean its a lot more unique and not bought in the car as is.
this obviously has its issues. one being insurance as its an engine swap not an upgrade.
my personal view is that a few more PSI will sort any power differential out. the biggest issue i see is strokers are often compared to audis stock block and not a built 2.2
if you fancy a stroker, go for it.
personally i cannot see the point if you aint going for the next level of hp around the 600-650 mark.
If you get all the bits cost no more than a good 2.2 build
I've had both a built 2.2 and a built 2.5 as the 2.5 out performed the 2.2 by miles even at 350 bhp
Anyhow each to their own, the less people who have strokers the better IMO

we could debate this for hours.
in a drag race a 2.2 will beat a stroker. its about RPM. and HP. rpm makes HP
round town a stroker will win. most times. its a torque game. just like my corrado G60 at almost 200hp was as fast as a 300hp subaru.
a stroker will always cost more jamo. you need to buy a block too. and more custom parts.Comment

Actually head over to motorgeek and you'll find it doesn't drag proven.we could debate this for hours.

Also cars such as Feco and Jonus doing the drag scene, their losing because their strokers?
It's churlish to say a stroker will lose on drag, the power and torque is available at a lower rpm the 2.2 has to rev high to make the same power or enter the peak range of the turbo.
It's not down to engine type aloneLast edited by Jamo; 19 August 2010, 10:57.Comment

How many cars on here are running signficantly beyond stock redline that you've seen? hydro lifters can go about 7500 then your in the realm of solid lifters
MRC recently went from a 8600 revving engine to 7400 and only lost 30 hp but gained major driveability in engine response.
the 2.2 hi-revving will win on a drag is a myth due to under curve nature of the setup.
Dont take my word for it ask our European draggers running stroker drag cars
I take it gazza lives his life 10 seconds at a time on the streets of manchester......Comment

area under the curve is street tackle. not strip.
i made a fair bit of hp and torque on the G60 corrado. in a straight line a honda will see it off. on the road not a chance. its RPM.
10 seconds is too long in Oldham. lol
an audi tts or even my 530d m sport has more area under the curve than me id expect. i dust him/it all day long. i have no built engine. just a lowly 2.2 with a bigger blower and a few mods.Comment

If so: why aren't all drag cars running 2.0 cranks for a even shorter strokewe could debate this for hours.

F1 engines are N/A much different powerplant dynamics, and have insanely light pistons and rods to keep reciprocating mass down, like under 200 grams per rods currently.. and how long do they last turning 20k rpm..
Only stroker limitations is in the rod stroke ratio, due to the large reciprocating mass and extremely piston velocities, Lighten the internals and spin on... besides 7500 rpm is plenty on a 2.6, 8000 should be easy with custom lighter forged or $$$ TI internals.I refuse to tip toe through life only to arrive safely at death.

I've tuned similar setup 2.2 and 2.5. Both used same starting map just ~15% less fuel on the 2.2 as a start and 2.5 need less ignition because of better cyl filling. You need a dyno with wideband lambda and knock sensor setup for fine tuning anyway so job is the same for 2.2 and 2.5.Hi boys ¡¡
do you know if it is harder or easier to map one of both engines with aftermarkets engine managements like Vems,Autronic, etc etc etc... ???
or are both the same easy/difficult to do??
how many people here are happy with aftermarket ecus and 2.5 strokers ??'
Jamo ,Billman.... helloooooooo

I would say accurate EGT monitoring as well if you plan on getting the timing rightI've tuned similar setup 2.2 and 2.5.
