        i know. only messing.

the basemaps of our respected vems sources are very good anyway.

think jamo's engine is a bit more unique than mine. mines just an old I5 with a bigger blower.

Bigger bore= higher sensitivity to knock.

i hear this noise only at wider throttle opening. if i take it slowly it is ok! i tryied higher advance but it was not much better.

Does piston kipping happens all the time at certain RPM or at certain loads?

Sure it's not the torsen diff you are hearing these tend to make a rattly knock like noise at that sort of rpm band under load if they are aging and worn.

Before the engine swap it was quiet.

I think I also hear a noise from the exhaust....hopefully this will clear things up.

I have done some runs with the knock cable and actually when i connect it to the Aux input of the car radio it works well (not so clean as Marcs file but is audible). I close the windows and turn it loud and is actually very good.

Maybe the sound quality on the file was so poor because i connected it to the laptop mic input because it has no line in.

At 4500-5000 RPM at 1.4 bar i hear that what i think is knock ( like in Marcs file region 23 but not for this duration).
There i have very small advance so i used the odler map that i was using with the 2.2 engine (very safe setup) and it became much better. Can too much retard also induce knock?

im with rwd19t. gearboxes sound like knock esp transaxles. subarus light up the knocklink like a christams tree. its the box usually.
put the sensor over a cooolant channel.

You are talking about the 1500-2000 region or the higher? What coolant channel?

what camdyou running. i get issues on the 7a about there. im sure its the cams. above there its fine.

find a bolthole thats over a coolant channel. thats how knock sensors minimise mechanical sounds away from knock.

I had a pretty funny experience with ECU hearing knock and retarding timing... I also heard pinging, which did not make any sense at all.

I was using a condenser mic and an amp. The clamp in the engine compartment to which the microphone is glued came loose and it was just hitting against the block, making a high pitched "ding" sound...

ECU heard this as knock and retarded timing... and it actually sounded very much like real knock.
So if you hear knock when you really, really should not be hearing it, then it's a good idea to check whether there is anything metallic loose, that could be going against the block/head with vibration.

Has anyone had joy with OEM knock sensors and VEMS?

I've managed to get some settings from the wiki but wondering if anyone has had any joy?
