    Attempting an oil change tonight

Is there anything i should be aware of when changing the oil and filter on my ABY avant? Such as position of sump plug or filter?

    Don't burn yourself

Get a new copper sealing ring for the plug.

Yep, cheaper than coffee. They probably offer you first the small one that is more usual. The one you need is around 22mm IIRC anyway not like 15mm.

Yes. Main problems A) Getting the undertray off ( if you have one fitted ).
          B) Undoing the plug. ( use a 3 ft sq drive extension from outside the wheel arch ) you wony get enough leverage otherwise unless the car is ramped.
          Good luck !

It can be done on the ground, but extreme car is needed - that blummin sump plug has a habit of tightening itself over time. I used to blame this on bad practise at dealerships with monkey boys just swinging on these bolts to tighten 'em, but I have torque wrenched mine in the past and found it incredibly tight 6 months later. Weird !

Yep biggest problems are removing the sump plug (I had to get mine up on a ramp once to get enough leverage) and getting the oil filter off if you don't have the right tool. I usually hammer a screwdriver through it and use that to turn it.

You might consider getting a fumoto valve - gets rid of the tight sump plug problem

I just did this at the weekend and it went nice and smoothly.

Undertray would be a pain for 1 person but with 2 it was quite swift.

The bloody sump plug is a nightmare, had to take it in turns to kick the cracker bar to get the ****** off. Thank god i've replaced it with a Fumoto valve this change.

One last thing i would recommend you use Castrol RS 10W60 oil, it's the daddy so far, engine is alot quieter now.

For the oil filter i've got one of thos Halford tools that grips the filter then you just turn it.

Sump plug washer are tupence from GSF.

Worst part is getting the old filter off, they mysteriously bond themselves onto the engine. Just make sure you can get it free before you drain all the oil out.
