When I had the 7A in mine a bolt dropped through the timing aperture and sheared the timing pin off, fortunately both the bolt and pin fell out through one of the holes at the bottom and my extremely skilled welder at work, welded it back on through the starter aperture. lasted 18 months until the 20vt went in so can be done but if its ok now leave it..

i would go with the above, if you are not going to use any aftermarket ECU that potentially has issues reading the pin, just leave it as is.

don't be stupid like I was and weld it.

look what I done second time when it happend's to me..

so take engine out and take a fly wheel out...

buy another pin in audi shop... here is the number... remember , pin must stay 1cm out from flywheel

than drill the whole on other side of flywheel (go into machine shop) than you will come on other side of broken pin, and kick them out.

put new pin on same place.. and must be 1 cm out...
so now you have a whole on the oder side.. put some iron pin and polish the other side..

I think that you understand me...

Consumption of Beer seems to have messed up my equation , it's not 8kg it's 80kg ! I thought it didn't sound very much when I typed it . So you can see the little pin has to endure quite a lot during it's lifetime .

I make it 200kg from here:

Input the mass, radius, and velocity, and our centrifugal force calculator will find the centrifugal force and centrifugal acceleration.

I was assuming the flywheel has a radius of 0.2m at 7000rpm and the pin weighs 0.02kg

The flywheel has a radius of 140 mm and it was assumed the pin was 10 grams , these figure entered into your link page gives 76.7115 kg-force , so I would say I was about right at 80 wouldn't you.

question: if you add 10grams and not balance it, wouldnt the extra 80kg have catastrophic results to the engine?

also when you are welding it, you are probably adding much less than 10grams, as the pin is already there, you are just reinforcing it.

i ask this, cause in my case, we possibly did reinforce and definitelly added material to the flywheel. So how bad is the extra 80Kg? can someone say?
