    ECU coding for EGR

Hello all, first post here asking for your expertise! I am from the US and am trying to delete the EGR valve on my 12v V6. I am able to recode my ECU to a European set but am unsure of which code I need.

The code I have right now is 01201. I'm wondering if it needs to be 02201 or 04201. I figured you guys would have a better chance of knowing which countries came with an EGR valve and which didn't.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I think I can help on that one. Will need to dig out some 12V docs though - cannot remember the sequence for recoding the Ecu. My uk 12v engine deffo doesn't have egr - it was only for us and other countries.

I would really appreciate it! I'm half tempted to just randomly try each one, but would hate for something catastrophic to happen on the test drive. Eagerly awaiting your reply

I need to know what model year the car is from... there are a few variants going on here depending on year / ECU type.

The early ones use a physical coding plug that sets voltage on a few ECU pins to the desired code.... Later ones are coded by OBD (VAGCOM). I dont want to confuse you all the detail - tell me more and I will find the details you need.

mmmm - seems you have a 5 digit code which would place it after MY94 - then i need ECU part number to look further.

Specifically I need to know if ECU is 8A0 906 266 ending in C or ending with E, H or J - then I can nail it

Looking further your 01201 coding is for USA (with EGR it seems), 4WD, 5-speed manual, 80 or Coupe

The first two digits define the country alright - and there is some subtle difference depending on ECU variant. However - it appears that 02201 and 04201 are safe to try in both variants... they select EU territory or 'other' territory and EGR is only mentioned for USA (01) and California has EGR plus secondary air on the later ECU with code 06.

Thanks for the help. My ecu is the mms311 part number ending in 266 E. The car is a '95. I had a fancy guy exhaust built with no provision for EGR because I wanted to ditch it and the problems it comes with (clogging, more room in engine bay). I will try these codes and let you know the results.

Also, I was wondering if you knew what the subtle differences were between the two European codes? Thanks again.

I have no idea why Sweden is specifically called out there - could be anything. Equally I dunno why the ECU needs to know if fitted to a Cabrio or not. The 12V engine isn't my specialist subject so sorry about that. Audi is a bit weird sometimes with these things.

I ended up choosing EU and Norway for my heritage. I took it out for a 40 mile drive last night with no MIL. Wish I could share a beer with you for your help! Maybe I will get stationed overseas in the near future
