    OEM metal head gasket reusable?

    Hello,

Is the oem metal head gasket considered reusable, the same way a solid copper head gasket is?

    Thanks,

I've heard that 5 times. Rumor.
    Personally I would not reuse.

Ditto. Some say yes, they are re-useable, but for the cost of a new matal item and the amount of blood, sweat and sometimes tears involvet in replacing a defective gasket, I wouldn't take a chance. REPLACE!

In that case, I think I want to pay the extra and get a solid copper one, which is supposed to be reusable.

I don't expect to be pulling the head off very often, but I dislike the idea of spending extra money than necessary if I do have to take it off again.

I understand Javad Shadzi in the U.S.A. of 034EFI fame, is using a solid metal one from http://www.headgasket.com .

Would anyone care to speculate on the appropriateness of a solid metal head gasket?

        Thanks,

Gasket Works USA / Headgasket.com quote

I received this in response to my query about Javad's head gasket. They have the pattern now, as the result of his effort. There MAY be some issue with the pattern, as I noticed something about it on his http://www.motorgeek.com forum, but I don't recall if it was a problem or an observation.

"mordy dunst/ gasket works (gasket.works<at>verizon<dot>net) to me

The gasket that Javad rec. was a .063" 5cyl audi and it costs $130.00 plus
          shipping.

Here is the page of the thread where the head gasket is discussed:
Hey guys, just thought I'd update the forum about my 20v project since I'm getting a lot of q's about it. Here is the parts list: -7A, 2.3 block bored to 83mm -.070 Copper head gasket, block 0-ringed with reciever groove in cylinder head (now custom MLS/Copper 034 gasket) -034EFI 144mm rods...

At the time of this posting, whether there is an issue or not is unknown (or I didn't read the conclusion yet).

the problem was with the check vavle, not the head gasket.

I helped him solve that problem.

I read that part of it about the check valve, but didn't realize that it was the reason for Javad's question about the head gasket. So the head gasket has no problem? Good to go? If so, sweet!

That's cool. I did get a quote on the OEM metal head gasket for like $45, so I may rethink my position on it. I still need some other parts and such before getting a head gasket or two. I'll probably ask Javad about it when the time comes. Thanks Josh!

Personally, I like that space to be as little as possible!
