Ive just fitted a turbo smart vee-port BOV and now standing still when bilding and releasing the revs im getting alot of what sounds like wastegate chatter and then the valve is opening. Is this natural or is this the turbo stalling? Ive tried to adjust it to its weakest adjustment but I cant see a difference.
If you use stock engine management, then throw that thing away.
Every time you are accelerating through the gears and lift you completely flood the engine with fuel and it takes time to recover.
This BOV of yours kills the performance of your car.
ahhh the old 'wastegate chatter' fable again... LOL
That noise is compressor stall - caused by the valve not dumping or bypassing air sufficiently well to prevent the compressor blades from having to chew threw backpressure caused by closed throttle when you lift off.
i have run a bov from more or less day 1. even on motronic - no issues
the thing to get correct is the setting. how quick it reacts to the change. if its too tight like jamo says it potentially wont move the air.
the v port is ok. the chatter isn't necessarily the gate. it can be the valve. what you will find is small amounts of air sound like chatter and a longer boost run will woosh.
that is the v-port sound. try winding out the screw at the top a little. this gives less pressure on the valve.
if you go supersonic or megasonic its different as the venting is also differnt.
I run a Forge 007, it's a full recirculating DV and handles chipped turbo pressure well. The APR R1 valve is a diaphragm type valve and is supposed to be vey good. Even teh old 710N or P is a good bet, just replace it every year or so

Cheers for the help guys, as ive been testing it i have deffinatly wound it all the way to its softest (out) and when on hard throttle and release i could see that instead of the valve opening smoothly it was fluctuating up wards so that to me is not a good sign. Ive stripped the Valve down and found that it was dirty inside and was not smooth moving up and down. Ive cleaned it out and polished the brass plunger so is moving really smoothly now but i think ill have to bite the bullet and sell this one and get a new full re-circ. Just out of interest does anyone know the colour of the standard spring in the turbo smart BOV's as this one has orange paint on it.

Nasty... what is the fascination with that orrible whooshy noise anyway?
The engine works hard to inhale every gram of air - fit a decent recirc type valve and be done with that dumping milarkey.
The idea of recirc operation is to help keep compressor spinning during gearchanges - admittedly not so crucial on a modern BB turbo but the noise is just disgusting IMHO.
Like i told you on monday timmy i think that wee little one is to small for the S2, near no boost and small amount of revs the valve is open for way to long IMO i.e the air is not beitng dumped quick enough. remember i run the 38mm supersonic on mine which is 2.5times the surface area of that we little nipper, that dumps fast!
that sound is the air coming out. nothing to do with turbo compressor stall. if you want to listen to a compressor stall, disconnect the vaccum hose, plug it with a screw or something and go for a ride. Your car may sound like the S1.
i had this when i fitted the holset, once i got out of the garage, and got really excited. once i came back, i noticed that the vaccum hose wasnt in.
The only reason i wouldnt use this is the motronic issue. Otherwise, it should be enough id say. The OEM valve has 19mm inlet and exit. Is that bigger than the current valve? Maybe.
i use 2 APR R1 now and although i dont need them to be recirc, i have used 2 small hoses to direct any air that comes out, back to the airfilter area.
